About Millena

Born in Washington, DC and raised in Upper Marlboro, MD, Millena Gay attended college at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, graduating with a double major in Spanish and International Relations. During a break before law school, she entered the Ms. Black World Pageant, winning the crown as well as the title of Ms. Congeniality. At the behest of the pageant photographer, professional photographs were taken and sent to every agent and casting director listed in the New York Yellow Pages. After commuting for a year from Maryland, Ms. Gay moved to New York and has been featured on: NY Undercover, USA Live, All My Children, Guiding Light and One Life to Live as well as the feature film Devils Advocate and the independent films, Now You Have Jazz, Life Change, The Two-Time and Romeos Diary.
Ms. Gay performed in the off-Broadway productions of Pygmalion as Mrs. Higgins and A Class Act. In addition to acting, Ms. Gay enjoys writing and directing and had the pleasure of doing all three for the productions of Forgive or Forget and A Man Named John. She directed and starred in Monsieur Felix Fox Fly which later went on to a Northeastern regional tour.Ms. Gay has tremendous hosting experience including the pilot show Future Voices Showdown, which she co-hosted with Tommy Ford, as well as Success Bound and The Urban Gold Showcase.After studying and training in New York for nine years, Ms. Gay moved to Los Angeles in 2005. Currently she plays the lead, Destiny Charles, in Jessica Sinclaires Thug Love, a love story chronicling the life of an emotionally abused wife and her journey to self-awareness. The movie was released nationally and in Canada in February 2009. She is also a lead in the feature film Sunday School Musical, a slight take-off of High School Musical with a Christian theme, as Anita, released in October 2008. Other film credits include Death and Money, Traveler, Nutrition, Remembering Luv, Speed Dating and Weigh Money.In television, Ms. Gay can currently be seen on the BET Networks show Played by Fame as a recurring principal. She has been on General Hospital as Talia, Top Shear/Shear Genius as a Vanessa Williams look-a-like, Trivial Pursuit America Plays as Americas team leader, Numb3rs, 12 Corazones and several others. Theatre performances include The Dining Room, Women of Manhattan, Moonlight Sonata and Passing on the Legacy. Ms. Gay appears in several commercials, including the nationally running FreeCreditReport.com, Silverton Casino, Check InTo Cash, Stargate, Toughlove and promos for the ION Network and HGTV. Infomercials include Elgin Charles Hair Products, Time Warners Midnight Soul CD Collection, Ashley Marriotts Burn N Firm and SlenderTone Abs. Among her commercial print credits are Junior Drake Handbags, DirecTv, Kaufmann Furs, Sprint and Verizon just to name a few.Ms. Gay just completed two stage productions, The Power of My Will and Konvergence and is in production on several projects including the feature film Bitter Inheritance, in which she set to play the lead, Velma Hannah. In addition, she will also star in the short film Catch Me When I Fall, the stage play Looking For A Man and was just cast on the new internet-based reality show Hellbent For Hollywood.Being heavily involved in the unions, Ms Gay is on the EEO Committee as well as being a co-chair for the Tri-Union Diversity Awards show and co-chair of the National Scene Awards committees respectively. She is also actively involved in giving back to the community, working with Mentors for Youth, Caterinas Girls, The Santa Clarita Homeless Shelter and Cover The Homeless (www.coverthehomeless.com) and was a judge in the 2007 Miss Santa Clarita Valley Pageant.Among her favorite teachers are Ben Guillory from the Robey Theatre Company and Barbara Gannen from the Margi Haber Studios. Originally scheduled to perform Trailblazers as part of the NAACP Theater Awards at the end of this month, Gay will play the three actresses in their younger heydays; Horne in Stormy Weather, Dandridge in Carmen Jones and Dee in A Raisin in the Sun.Except with Dee, there will be a unique twist because Ill play her in both her younger and older days. How? Youll just have to come and see, said Gay.According to Gay, with the NAACP Theater Awards postponement what was planned as a ten minute piece she is now considering expanding to half an hour.She has submitted the piece to An Evening with the Sistas theater festival in October and will be updating all and any performance information on her website www.mymillena.com.The inspiration for me to do the production came just a few weeks ago in light of the NAACP Theater Festival, said Gay.Members of the theater committee came to see To Know Him Is To Love Him, where I played Estelle and I had gone to a friends play at Stella Adler where I saw some of the members there and they gave me a flyer for the awards night.She added: I think there are some female legends out there that have never been fully acknowledged and recognized for their contributions to entertainment, especially Ruby Dee, who is over 80 and just got her Academy Award.In doing the research I had no idea how many awards and accolades she had won singularly as well as with Ossie Davis. Its things were just not exposed to and information I want to share and educate people with.Gay, who herself has written and directed off Broadway and off off Broadway shows, has assembled a top team including award-winning playwright Mildred Dumas, theater-nominated director Angela Duckett Batravil, vocalist Arthur Richardson, choreographer Efe and celebrity stylist Larry Sims.They are all people Ive worked with in the past and I just called them up and they said okay, lets go, and they are helping me realize this dream, said Gay.Having formed her own production company called Honey Peach Productions, Gay is on her own trailblazing path, developing two features, three shorts, a webisode and the one-woman show.If you want to work you have to create your own. Ive written ever since I was 5 or 6 and been in the game long enough to know youve got to use every resource available to you, she said.

William Ellis Colby, Caucasian, is dead. He has willed his thriving multi-million dollar advertising agency to his daughter, Sonya Ellis Colby, and his personal assistant, Velma Hannah, the woman he planned to marry and who is African-American. Claire Colby, Williams wife, unable to cope with her estranged husbands death, commits suicide. After her mothers funeral, Sonya fires the Colby household staff and disappears, vowing to make Velma pay for what she has done to her family. Callie Foster, the maid, vows to make Sonya pay for what she has done to herfiring her after all the years of faithful service she has given the Colby family. Callie decides that she is fired, but she is not leaving with just the little severance pay that crazy Colby gal has given her and the measly ten-thousand dollars Claire Colby left her in her will. When she discovers that Sonya has left town, Callie takes up residence in the Colby mansion. Her plan is to pawn as many of the valuables in the house as she can then make her getaway.

Unfortunately, her plans are thwarted, and she finds herself imprisoned in the house. Sonya returns home (after four years) with a vengeance. She assumes her position as second-in-command at the company and plays her role well in convincing Velma that all is forgiven and that she wants to be friends for the sake of the company. However, Bradley Morris, Creative Supervisor at the company, who knows Velma and Sonyas history, and who, against his wishes as a womanizer, is falling in love with Velma, is not convinced about Sonyas change of heart and is watching her like a hawk. Sonya manages to inveigle Velma into her home where she drugs and holds her captive. Callie comes to Velmas aid. These three women make Bitter Inheritance a thrilling must read.

Mildred Dumás, in partnership with the Palmdale Woman's Club, presented, "A Gathering of First Ladies," an historical drama written, directed and produced by actress and playwright Mildred Dumás. The inaugural performance took place on March 13, 2010 at the new, state-of-the-art Knight High School Theater in Palmdale, CA.

In the stage play, First Lady Michelle Obama has invited 10 other 'first' ladies to the White House for tea. Each of these women were the first in history to achieve or to be successful at some great feat recorded in history.

Mary Mahoney, Ethel Waters, Marian Anderson, Bessie Coleman, Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, Hattie McDaniels, Barbara Jordan, Ida B. Wells and Eleanor Roosevelt are the 10 guests who talk about the roles each of them played in the quest for race and gender equality in America.

Acting veteran Millena Gay is Bessie Coleman, first American to receive an international plot license. Coleman learned French in order to get flying lessons and stunt flying lessons in France, unavailable to her in the States.
